November 2023:
We have completed a number of activities that will bring the waterway to life including earthworks and soil preparation for planting, and placement of habitat rocks and logs. These will provide shelter and winter hibernation sites for Growling Grass Frogs.
Jute mat has been laid which will help retain moisture in the soil and prevent erosion throughout the planting process. Garden bed mulch has been spread throughout designated areas and tree planting has also been completed. We will soon be laying turf in sections adjacent to the road and pedestrian path.
The waterway landscape design combines turf and garden bed revegetation areas. These areas are a crucial part of the design, because they ensure the growth of flora, and support animal life, which contributes to ensuring a flourishing Gum Scrub Creek.
We have seven garden bed planting zones within the waterway, which are each designed to respond to the layout of the waterway. These planting zones will include specific and unique species of plants along the waterway, depending on which zone they fall into.
